Ah! The joy of biting into a beautiful, freshly picked, sun-warmed tomato!<\/p>\n

We\u2019re going to have to wait a bit for that. Now it\u2019s time to plant your garden.<\/p>\n

To help you grow your vegetable garden, here are some pro tips from Jean-Philippe, President of OLA Bamboo and long-time gardening aficionado:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1- First of all, you should focus on using compost<\/strong>. Using the compost you make at home is ideal, but you can also use what your municipality makes available to its citizens if any is available in your area.<\/p>\n

A great way to add quality compost to your garden is to add all your dead leaves to it in the fall. OK, it\u2019s a tad late for this year, but keep that in mind for next year.<\/p>\n

Also, grass cuttings make an excellent mulch throughout the summer. Keep it and add it on top of the soil after each mowing. This will hold moisture in the soil and prevent weeds from growing. Yeah!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2- Creating your vegetable garden directly on the ground<\/strong> is ideal. This helps you manage moisture better, and it\u2019s actually free and pretty simple!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

3- I strongly suggest companion planting<\/strong>; namely, growing different vegetables in the same area so that they can help each other grow. Vegetables from the same family can even harm each other. Companion planting is what The Three Sisters\u2014a Native American method<\/a> that combines corn, beans and squash\u2014promotes.<\/p>\n

4- Don\u2019t till the soil unnecessarily.<\/strong> The furrows formed by last year\u2019s vegetables and the channels created by earthworms and other insects promote soil aeration and water drainage to the roots of your precious vegetables.<\/p>\n
